Funny to read that just now as I just started back to running today! I took part in the mourne mountain marathon in September and then ran once more a week or two after that. My wife and I just had our 3rd baby a few weeks ago so I have no grand plans this year, just feels great to be out again. Hope you have a very enjoyable year. Look forward to hearing about it.

I came to Canada from an extremely warm country i.e. Pakistan..and I am currently in Winnipeg, where its really nasty during the winters, e.g. this whole week the average high was around -20C, the low was around -26-27. I used to do 8.2 miles regularly, over here, because of the snow making it much more difficult not to mention teh extremely cold wind, I am lucky if i can do a 10k everyday. But its really worth the effort, makes me feel proud (not to mention makes my lungs burn when I try to do speedwork!!!)

I appreciated reading your column David - wish I had read it sooner. When I was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma 2 years ago my gym membership was just coming up for renewal. I did not renew as my idea of dealing with chemo was that I would often be vomiting, lying weakly on the couch, etc. In fact, I was really pretty healthy during chemo, no vomiting but did have fatigue. I tried to get out and do something every day, even going for walks although this was in the middle of record snowfalls in Ontario! If I had to do it again I'd have kept my gym membership, although I'm not sure how I would have dealt with working out without my wig on. May have been difficult to do. Now that I'm feeling much stronger and have more energy, I'm going to start the couch to 5k program to get my pre-chemo body back!
